We listed our house for sale May 1, had it under contract by May 13, and closed on June 11.
I feel fortunate that it happened so quickly.
On June 10, when we "checked-out" of the house for the last time, it hit Landon and I how much fun we'd had putting this house together, and how proud we were of it. A friend told me that the first house would always be the most special; I'm certain it's true. This is the house where we learned how to divvy up chores, do simple home repair, paint, change electrical plugs, insulate. Here, we learned when to call a plumber and when to do it ourselves. We learned what kind of flowers would thrive out front (it feels like we just figured that out THIS year), and how to throw a dinner party. We learned how to share a closet and sink... and to look for a new house with his/her closets and sinks! We learned that my mother was right; sleeping downstairs with our babies upstairs made us CRAZY.
I want Cora & Quinn to know what the house looked like; here are the pics from our listing, with a few stories tagged on, for good measure.
In August of 2009, a leak occurred in the upstairs bathroom and the entire ceiling in this bathroom (below it) had to be replaced. It was the week before my bachelorette party, with 15 girls staying at my house. Landon and I worked around the clock to get it repaired.
Ugh. These horrible cabinets. I'm glad we never replaced them. I really don't think we would have gotten our investment back, given the market.
The first month we owned the house, Betsy, JT, Landon, and I (along with some help from Eric & Tim, too) painted the living room and foyer. It was a HUGE task. Landon almost fell off of the ladder once (JT saved him; seriously). The color was orange cream-sickle. I learned yesterday at closing that they buyer does plan to leave it this color for a while... so there. As much as Landon likes to comment that it looked like a flower vomited all over our house, I originally planned to paint the room a neutral color; he was the one that insisted we go bold.
When we were checking-out, Landon got a little sad in the girl's bathroom. One of his favorite memories with each of them: when they first tried to "catch" water as it came out of the spicket. He took like an hour of video the first time Cora did it, he thought it was so fun and innocent.
At 4:30AM on January 3, 2010, Landon was standing right where this picture was taken when I came sprinting around the corner telling him to wait before going outside. He knew the news from the tone of my voice before I even said it. Right in this very spot we realized we were going to be parents. What a great memory.
Landon found this bench at the same feed store as it went out of business. Another $20 purchase. We love it.
We voted hands-down that our office was our favorite room in the house. Landon had those cabinets built as my Christmas present the year we got married. He found that table at a feed store that we going out of business ($20 purchase), and it made for the PERFECT shared desk for us. With Landon back in school and me always doing "school" work, we spent countless nights of quality time sitting across from each other in this office, working and chatting, making lists of goals on the white board behind me. To tell my parents that we were expecting, we put a picture of the ultrasound on the shelf. They had not seen the new cabinets yet, so when they came in for a closer look, they saw the picture.
Landon's domain (aka, the backporch).
