Packing-up at Aunt Paula's.
This Christmas Break was crazy. Absolutely insane. When we mapped out the holiday season, we pointedly decided that with Landon in school and my future added responsibilities at work and Cora not far from starting school, this might be our last break (ever? until we retire?) where we both have flexible schedules. Becasue Quinn was so young we didn't take a summer vacation, so we decided to go all out, spending about 10 days visiting family, and then about 10 days hosting family. It was chaotic. It involved a lot of luggage and changing of sheets. We memorized the words to a few movies playing from the backseat of the QX even though neither Landon or I ever actually saw the video. We allowed ourselves to eat fast food (gross). They started to know us by first name at Papa Murphy's. I was the only person in the household who didn't end up at urgent care. We pulled a few all nighters to get all of the presents bought and made and wrapped and shipped early (and grades submitted and our clothes packed), and we pulled a few all nighters while traveling with sick/unhappy/non-sleeping babies. We had 6 different present-opening occasions There are presents that we really like... and I have no clue who to thank!
On January 2nd, we were thrust back to the real world. I left town to travel with the Schottland Scholars, and returned only to pack-up again to head to San Francisco for a conference only to return again to find myself starting the semester four days later than my peers.
Nevertheless, we'd had so much fun that we decided we couldn't treat our last night of break (January 1) like any old night. Instead, we made a nice meal, popped some popcorn, kept the girls up late (Quinny sleeping in my arms), and cuddled up on the couch to watch the Lorax.
The next day, all the Messal's who can talk declared, "I spent all day missing you!"
Quinny can't talk, but she was actually fussy. For 3 days straight.
A sure sign that she missed Mommy, Daddy, and Cora, too!
Happy New Year!
