Best Friends

A few posts back, I talked about the anxiety (or lack of anxiety) that Landon and I had as we were waiting for Quinn's arrival. I didn't mention that almost ALL of our anxiety has been focused in one direction: how would Cora react? In fact, now that Quinn is here and we are a few days in, the number one question that we are being asked is (often in a reluctant tone), "Well, how is Cora reacting to this?"

We know we're only a few days in, but we are all in consensus. Cora's reaction to Quinn could not possibly be better.

Admittedly, when Cora came to the hospital for her first visit, I was a little worried. The problem wasn't that she seemed upset about Quinn, she just didn't seem interested in her at all.

She was interested in the buttons on the side of the bed.

She really liked my hospital cup with the big straw.

And then there were the Wheat Thins.

But she hardly even noticed when we brought in the baby!

And, she really wasn't that interested in touching the baby, although she was willing to say "Hi Baby!".

And, she willingly said "Bye Baby".

Now that we are home with Quinn, Cora is in her comfortable environment and she seems happy to let Quinn live in it.

Cora's babydolls have been very popular this week, as have the slides at school.

 Despite ALL this chaos. I think Quinn will survive in Cora's environment!

 This was Cora's first time to hold Quinn. We had offered several times, and she had not taken us up on it. We didn't want to push the issue. On Sunday, Cora settled on the couch when we asked if she wanted to hold Quinn. As soon as I came over with Quinn, Cora's little hands started awkwardly looking for a place to go. She played with her hair, she played with the blanket, she held her hands straight up in the air - it looks as if we were saying "Don't touch the baby!" but we weren't.

Cora already seems really proud of Quinn, and it won't be long before Quinn will give her big sister her best smiles.
