Hide your Barbies and your Legos!

This newly minted 6 month old can go anywhere she'd like with a twist and a roll.

She started on the other end if this blanket.

She is also sitting when her overprotective sisters will let go.

Happy half birthday to Our Emily!

Last weekend was CofC homecoming. A lot of former students exclaimed "I can't believe you have 3 babies now!"

Honestly, I can't believe we ever didn't have 3.

Good morning

We've established the rule that they can have all the goodies they want the day after a holiday (think Halloween or school vday party), then the treats are tossed at the end of the day.

We forgot to toss the treats last night.

Goldfish for breakfast.

Me: Cora, you guys look so cute today. Smile for a picture?
Cora: not gonna happen

Because someday this will be funny

Hopefully today, when we take down our vday decorations, we'll also put away the nativity scene, Christmas village, and remaining Christmas plates still perched on top of the cabinets.

Then again, a nativity scene fits with Easter too ... No?

Valentines Day 2015

Mia, Grandma Iris, and Grandma M make vday feel like Christmas Day!

How excited these kids get to see boxes on the porch.

Vday 2015:
We spent the cold day huddled inside, mostly.
Landon took the girls to Target to choose toys with Gma Iris's money. Their choices? A fairy tea party set (Cora) and a stuffed My Little Pony (Quinn).
We all napped.
Emily practiced standing while we held her hands.
We made steak, potatoes, and tomato barley soup followed by Edra-inspired milkshakes.
The centerpiece? A rose from my Harris Teeter home shoppers... We love them!

Landon and I were both already asleep when Emily woke us up crying at 10pm.

Our first date was Vday, 2007. We reminisced about our favorite things from the past 8 years, while 3 if our favorite things kept interrupting for ketchup, fairy outfit snapping, more milk...

What a great day!!!

Unceremonious firsts

From Emily Day 10

Today, I was in the kitchen when I overheard a comment from Quinn about Emily's belly button, then Landon's response, "yeah, her belly button came off when I changed her diaper".

Wait, what! It came off and I missed it and you didn't even tell me???

Then , again from Landon, "I went ahead and gave her a bath in the sink but she's so long we'll need a tub soon."

And you just plopped her in a bathtub, by yourself, no pictures and no celebration?!?!? Come on!!!

Emily: some day you'll read these words. I'm sorry - my hands are a bit full. Don't feel like you've been totally slighted. Your prize is these two bigs who are completely crazy about you.

Quinny-poo

And sissy-poo.
Baby-poo.
Mommy-poo.
Daddy-poo.

There's a song mom and I sing to the girls. It's to the tune of "oh my darlin" and they each get their own words.

Oh my Cora,
Spicey Cora,
Cora I adora you.
You're my Cora,
Sweet sweet Cora,
Oh my Cora I love you.

Oh my Quinny,
Oh my Quinny,
Oh my Quinny Quinny poo.
Your my Quinny,
A shiny penny,
Oh my Quinny I love you.

When Em was born, Quinn quickly suggested she get her own verse and insisted we sing her song. That turned to calling Emily "Emmy-poo". This week Quinn has put a loving poo after everyone's name.

Even when she's mad.

Yesterday she was fitting over wanting an apple, not a pear.
With her high-note finishes to demands, she was exclaiming, "I want an Apple! An APPLE (shrieking high note). Mommy (shrieking high note) poo!" And then she fell silent. That "poo" just didn't roll off an angry tongue very easily.

Speaking of songs, Emily's is:

Oh my Emmy,
Our baby Emmy,
Oh my Emmy, Emmy true.
Your my Emmy
Heaven sent Ye,
Oh my Emmy I love you.

We were singing their songs while blow drying hair last night.

Cora: "why'd you say heaven sent Ye?"
Me: because Emily is a gift from heaven.
Cora: why?
Me: from god. Like Emily is a gift to us from god.
Cora: but why? Like she died and came from heaven?
Me: no, like she is God's and we get to borrow her. Just like you were a gift from God to mommy and daddy.
Cora: but she gets to stay for a really long time.
Me: I hope so!
Cora: like sharing. Cept when we share, I get a turn then you get a turn, it's not like that right? God is sharing her but she gets to stay with us, like forever, right? Because we aren't really borrowing her, right mom?

Um... Let's go back to singing?!??

And, a few hours earlier I nonchalantly got asked,

Cora: "Do we turn into other animals when we die?"
Me: no, we go to heaven to be with god.
Cora: and then we turn to animals?
Me: nope, we probably just stay like we are and we get to be together like this.
Cora: or we get to be animals if we want to.
Me: No... That's not what mommy believes.
Cora: we'll, that's what [really sweet friend from school] believes. So sometimes people get to be animals.

I need a good night's sleep, full stomach, and a glass of wine to tackle these questions.

Geeze Louise.
