Do I say that?

Cora and I were having a disagreement, I can't even remember about what.
I had told her to do something, and she was telling me that she wanted to do something else...
And then she ended her announcement with:

"That's how it's going to be... right mommy?"

Princess Quinn

There are two reasons we should start calling her Princess Quinn.

The first is that Quinn has this elegant wave. It isn't exactly enthusiastic, although she is enthusiastic to do it any chance she gets. It's more nonchalant. Some examples.

We got out of the car when we were living at the apartment... (we're living at the house now! Too too too much to blog about, and too much to do to blog)... anyways... we were living at the apartment, and I got Quinn out of the car. Her head popped over my shoulder. She looked down the lot in one direction, casting her casual wave. No one was there. She looked down teh lot in the other direction, switching to the other hand to send her wave. No one. So Quinn popped her paci back in her mouth and went back to cool-Quinn-demeanor.

Landon is at this exact very moment upstairs rocking the girls. I just took up some more milk. Quinn squirmed hard to get her paci rested up on the edge of the crib (which was weird, because Quinn never gives up paci), then with her hand freed, began blowing kisses.

I don't know how to capture it. The wave is enthusiastic, yet very cool. It's like she feels like people expect her to wave at them, so she obliges.

The second reason is her birthmark. A little 1 inch birthmark right in the center of her chest, perfectly shaped like a crown. She might grow out of it, but right now, the shape is distinct.

Speaking of cool, Cora has been talking A LOT about her friend Gavin at school. She goes through phases. Sometimes she blames Gavin for every bad thing that happens at school (I doubt he is really the culprit), but lately, she has been announcing that Gavin is coming over for a "playdate" to play with her toys. The first time she said it, I thought Landon would throw a conniption. He practically banned the word "date" in any form from being used in this house, even if it's to say "playdate". I told Gavin's Dad about her announcement, asking him if they would come over to grill out after we're settled. Yesterday, they were leaving school at the same time as us. Gavin and his dad were on their golf cart.

Gavin's Dad: "Gavin, say good bye to your girlfriend"
Gavin: "Cora? Yeah, she's cool"

And, finally, I wish I had a picture. Quinn got in the mud out front today while I was pulling weeds. My cell had died, and my camera is dead (I just found the charger; we packed the wrong one during the move), so I didn't get a picture. But hands, arms, and shirt were black. Princess, but a tomboy princess...

Little redneck interpretation

Leaving church, Landon on phone with friend for impromptu brunch at our house.

Landon(on phone): come at your leisure, but we were shooting for 11. ... OK... Great, 11:30. See you in a few.

Cora: daddy, what are we shooting?

More Cora-isms

I love the simplicity of observations from a 2-year-old.

Today I made sandwiches for lunch. For Cora, I grabbed a star cookie cutter and shaped her sandwich. We were both nearly finished eating when Cora observed...
Cora: mommy, you have a triangle?
Me: not really
Cora: you have a star?
Me: no baby. Mommy cut yours in a star because you're special
Cora: you're not special?

Several weeks ago, Cora thre a tantrum when she woke up. It wasnt a huge deal, but we were still in bed (Cora in with us), and she slammed back angrily and busted my nose. It hurt bad enough that I retreated to the privacy of the bathroom to fume, and bad enough that Cora got a serious guilt trip from Landon... But not so bad that I needed an X-ray... But bad enough that I told Landon I thought I needed an X-ray.
It was traumatic for Cora. She was really sad. Not very apologetic, but super clingy and needy all morning.
Fast forward to tonight.

Cora-isms

We're still in kentucky (homeless) and Cora is popping out a new Quotable moment every day. Here's a few:

A car drove be too quickly in a parking lot.
Cora: Hey buddy! You need to watch where you're going!

Cora went to potty. She came running back out:
Cora: Look what Papaw did! Papaw you left the seat up Papaw!

Cora and Quinn were playing after dinner, running around table and shrill ing loudly. It was loud, and Papaw was getting annoyed. He told them to stop.
Cora: Don't you tell us no, Papaw. We's playing!

Cora was throwing a fit and I was making her sit in my lap (torture, of course).
Cora: You'se hurting me!
Me: I'm not hurting you. I didn't touch you.
Cora: You'se hurt my feelings!

Some "don't want to forget" Cora antics...

Cora-story 1:
Driving thru Georgetown, SC. Passed an old mill, told Cora to look at all the old equipment.
Me: I wonder what they make there.
Cora: I don't know. Castles?

Cora-story 2:
I can no longer use the phrase, "We need to go run an errand". For HOURS Cora followed me around announcing, "I want to go run with Erin, too".

Cora-story 3:
I mumbled, " this house is a wreck."
Cora said back, nonchalantly, "well the cleaning lady comes tomorrow."

Cora-story 4:
For dinner I fixed quinoa, spinach, and cheese. It was delicious... Cora cried all through dinner and refused to touch it. After her bath, Cora picked up a random lid laying on sink, and started to put it in her mouth.
Me: eeew! Yucky! Cora we don't put something in our mouth if we don't know what it is!!!
Cora: like dinner?
